It is the second holiest site in Islam, after the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. The mosque was built by prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in 622 CE (1 AH) after his arrival in Medina.

It was here that God gave victory to His Prophet and his fellow-believers when they triumphantly entered Makkah in the 8th year after Hijra (630 AD), ending the state of polytheism and exalting the name of Allah, the one and only God. Muslims all over the world turn their faces in prayer five times a day towards the Kaaba in Makkah and begin and end their pilgrimage with a "tawaaf" (circumambulation) of it.

The Arabic inscription reads “Alhumdulillahi Rubil Alameen”, which is often translated to "All praises are for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds". It is one of the seven oft-repeated verses and is the opening verse of surah Al-Fatihah, which itself is the opening surah of the Qur’an. All the daily prayers begin with praise of the One to whom the prayer is addressed, and that’s why they start with this powerful and beautiful verse.

Stylised Arabic calligraphy like that designed for this fridge magnet was often the work or great Islamic calligraphers. Calligraphers would often go through many design iterations before arriving at a perfected design that they were happy with. The style you see drawn here is in the traditional Thuluth script style and is one of the more famous designs found for the Basmallah. Such script is used in sacred and official texts, this has given rise to a wonderful profusion of scripts that has flourished for over a thousand years - not only in manuscript decoration but in architecture, ceramics, painting and art.
